So i’m looking to replace my old rusty Ram 1500 with a new truck. Choices are between a 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel or a 2016 Ram Power Wagon Tradesman. Price is pretty much the same for either truck. I will periodically tow a 6000# trailer. The Rebel will fit in my garage. The Power wagon will not. Do i sacrifice fuel economy and the ability to park in a dry, heated garage for a huge truck that looks badass and will scare the crap out of Prius’s when I come up behind them on the highway?

Option 3) Get a single cab Ram 1500 with the R/T package and put the IT workers in their GTIs and Focus STs in their place.

I’m not going to give advice on which to buy, but I will say that I’ve never looked at a Ram Rebel and thought, “Yes, but why is it so tiny and wimpy-looking?”

For a more sensible reply...you get a lot of capability for your money with the power wagon. The rebel is mostly and appearance/interior package.

The Rebel makes more sense, so Power Wagon it is.

Or you could find a used low milage Dodge Magnum, pull out a sawzall and make your own pickup. PLease do this and take pictures

I would go Power Wagon just because I think the regular Ram looks better than the Rebel, but some people think the opposite.

Tradesman.

So maybe the Power Wagon?

The Magnum would better suited grafted on to an 80's one ton chassis with a 12" lift, 44" tires and stacks. Painted orange with a rebel flag on the roof.

I like how you think

I’m curious how often you will tow this 6,000lb trailer? That’s sort of a medium sized load in the scheme of things, and probably fairly taxing to a half ton truck. The rebel appears to have a pretty beefy towing cap, but the power wagon is more capable. I like the rebel, but I would go power wagon.

Just priced out a Power Wagon myself. That’s a LOT of goodies for the price
So, uh, POWER WAGON

Now I’m looking for an 80s 1 ton and a Magnum on Craiglist. There goes my productivity.

probably about 6 times a year. Towing my charger to track days. I currently use my 06 1500. It’s a Hemi, but 345hp, 3.55 gears, 5 speed auto. Put it in tow/haul mode and it does fine. doesn’t struggle on hills. A rebel has 395hp, 3.92 gears and an 8 speed transmission, so it should pull this with ease. It’s rated for just under 10k lbs.
The power wagon is only tow rated for about 1000 more.

If you are going just for image and looks, get the rebel. It will ride nicer, handle better, get significantly better mileage and be parkable. If you need a hardcore truck, this guide may be of some value.

Mhhhmmmmm
The Rebel is cool but its not a Power Wagon. Plus you could always buy some AEV parts.

I’ve worked for a GM dealer and currently work for a Ford dealer. Just can’t bring myself to buy trucks from either of them.

I honestly think the rebel would be enough truck for the job, and still very liveable as a daily driver.

Well, considering the poor IIHS crash tests of current models, poor reliability ratings...and the fact that I see more rusted out current generation Rams than anyone should when it’s still in production...I wouldn’t touch them with a 25 foot pole at this point, even if it has a diesel. It’s just not worth it.
I’ll literally take any other full size truck over them anyday, even a Titan or Tundra. At least they won’t rust out quickly or break down easily, especially the Toyota.
But honestly, my choice would be a Silverado 1500 Rally Edition Crew Cab 4X4 with a 5.3 under the hood.

The Rebel with the air suspension and smaller tires would be more practical, but the world always needs more Power Wagons and that Rebel grille is terrible, so I vote Power Wagon.

i think i’m drawn to the power wagon just from a nostalgia standpoint. i loved simon & simon when i was a kid.

i quite like the rebel front end. the giant RAM on the tailgate, on the other hand, is a bit much. i’m surprised they didn’t put an exclamation point after it.
RAM!
someone please photoshop that.

Seems like you need to get the nice Power Wagon then.

Don't underestimate the value of getting into a vehicle in the winter and just driving away. Garages are really helpful for that. No scraping tall windows that you can't reach, wiping snow off, etc.
